This course is designed for K-12 educators who would like to learn to use the online Noteflight music notation software in their own practice as educators, and to teach their students to use Notefight as a tool for musical expression and creativity. The course topics will cover navigation in the Noteflight HTML5 interface, score creation, editing, importing, exporting, and collaborative features necessary in an educational environment. Each unit will focus on building skills needed to create and manipulate the types musical scores typically used and created by educators. The course will culminate with instruction specific to using Noteflight in the MusicFirst Online Classroom.

Dr. James Frankel holds Ed. D and MA degrees in Music Education from Teacher’s College, Columbia University, and a BA in Music Education from Montclair State University. Jim is the Head of Digital Education for the Music Sales Group, and Director of MusicFirst. Previously, he was the Managing Director of SoundTree, and before that he was the instrumental and general music teacher for 15 years in New Jersey Public Schools. Jim is a widely published author in various state, national and international journals of music education. He is the author of The Teachers Guide to Music, Media & Copyright Law, co-author of YouTube in Music Education, contributing author for Critical Issues in Music Education and co-author of Making Music with GarageBand & Mixcraft. In addition to his writing, Jim teaches music education technology, courses at Teacher’s College, Columbia University, and is a highly sought-after clinician and keynote speaker in the local, national and international music education community.
