Course Description

The CAFE' books provides a practical and meaningful way to integrate assessment into daily reading and classroom discussion. Based on the acronym Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expand vocabulary, the system incorporates student-based goal-setting, posting of goals on a whole-class whiteboard, and focusing whole-class instruction on student needs. The CAFE' system enables teachers to organize assessment data to inform instruction, track students' strengths and goals, create flexible groups of students, and assist students to remember and retrieve reading strategies. The CAFE' system is flexible and allows teachers to tailor the system to reflect the individual needs of students and state standards.
