Course Description

This course is based principally on the British documentary, The First World War. This series provides a unique perspective on one of the bloodiest conflicts the world has ever known. Much of the material is presented in the words of the participants who range from presidents and prime ministers to privates and proletarians. It incorporates an astonishing collection of still photographs, motion pictures, and art. In addition, a number of prominent historians are featured with their commentaries and insights. Such an approach permits us, as students of history, to see and hear history as it actually happened, but also to gain greater understanding and insight.
