Course Description

Gives participants the opportunity to learn from some of the most eminent scholars and practitioners of the music and dance of Africa. Students will gain knowledge of African music from a performance as well as a scholarly perspective. Learners will be introduced to current scholarly thought on aspects of African music and dance, explore contemporary African music repertoire for Western instruments such as the violin, cello, and piano, and learn some traditional drumming and dance forms. African music repertoire that can be used in music education and performance will also be presented.
