Course Description

Learn new and innovative ways to effectively teach Algebra using the TI-83+/84+ calculator. Engage in real-life activities aligned with NCTM Principles and Standards and Common Core State Standards you can immediately use in the Algebra I and II classrooms. Research instructional implications of technology use for teaching mathematics. Explore topics in the secondary mathematics curriculum, including functions (linear and quadratic) and relations, transformations, log and exp functions, factoring polynomials, min/max problems, data analysis, regression and correlation, stat plots, curve fitting, matrices, trigonometry, finance, polar graphs, fractals, and simple programming.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of the TI-83Plus and TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators and TI-Connect for teaching and learning mathematics in the algebra classroom.
  • Create mathematics activities for secondary students using the ideas, skills and strategies in the activities presented in this course.
  • Create an instructional unit incorporating use of graphing technology.
  • Design lesson plans that align with CCSS and NCTM Principles and Standards.
