Course Description

This course avails teachers the tools to help college-bound students prepare for the math college placement test (CPT). Participants gain insight into current assessment placement practices at community colleges, colleges and universities; the various types of CPTs currently used; and the trends in remediation and the impact on students’ educational advancement. The course identifies content knowledge required to gain access to college-level math, challenges students face during test taking, and strategies to improve students’ outcomes. The knowledge gained helps teachers design an action plan to help students of diverse educational and multicultural
background improve college success.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Identify design, structure, and content of various types of math college placement tests (CPTs) currently used.
  • Develop strategies to effectively remediate student math content knowledge to help students gain access to college-level math.
  • Identify and compare math content of various Math CPTs and alignment with NCTM principles and standards.
  • Develop and submit an Action Plan to prepare all students for the Math CPT.
