Course Description

How do you ensure all students are engaged each day in meaningful, challenging, and joyful work and have equal opportunity to learn? Literacy Essentials addresses this central question: such an outcome is only possible within a culture of empowerment in which all students and teachers feel encouraged and supported to let their voices be heard, explore their passions and interests, develop deep knowledge, and become their fullest and truest selves. The course provides practical and easy-to-implement tools to help students develop as self-determining readers, writers, and learners. Guided reading strategies are covered in-depth, including the teacher’s role, instructional reading levels, text gradients, balanced instruction, integrated processing, and assessment. Authors of the course texts are pioneers in the field of reading instruction, and you will be learning from the best.
