Course Description

The evidence is legion that humor is not only one of the best healing agents known to medicine but also the best 'life-lubricating and pain analgesic” available to the human race. As important, research shows that if people can laugh while learning a lesson, they will retain the lesson much better than if they sleep or daydream through it. We saw a critical need to help educators motivate disengaged students so we designed Humor In The Classroom. We met this challenge by creating a class to help teachers make humor a vital ingredient in their teaching “toolbox” . We intend to show teachers not only how important it is but also how to weave humor into the fiber of their classrooms as well as into the fiber of their personal lives. Any improvement we make in our personal lives will benefit the millions of children we serve. We can't think of a better mission.

Learner Outcomes

By the conclusion of the course, each participant will be able to do the following:

1. The participant will gain a deeper knowledge of the benefits of humor in their lives and classrooms. (TASC 9, 10; NBPTS: 4)

2. The participant will analyze their humor style to ensure it is beneficial to students. (TASC 3, 8, 10; NBPTS: 1, 4)

3. The participant will identify areas of improvement for classroom management and create a more flexible environment

through the use of humor. (TASC 6; NBPTS 1,3)

4. The participant will utilize a variety of humorous activities during instruction. (TASC 8; NBPTS 1, 3, 4)

5. The participant will investigate how empathetic and loving they are to their students. ((TASC 3, 10; NBPTS 1, 4, 5)

6. The participant will learn how to handle stress and examine their life’s mission. (TASC 3, 10; NBPTS 1, 4, 5)

7. The participant will examine their emotional quotient. (TASC 3, 10; NBPTS 1, 4, 5)
