Course Description

This course provides general education teachers with knowledge and skills associated with developing and implementing meaningful Individualized Education Programs for students with disabilities, in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Topics include federal and state regulations for the education of individuals with disabilities; procedures for referral, diagnosis and placement; and formation of individual education programs. Emphasis on the importance of the role of the family in the individual education program planning process is a critical consideration.  Students will produce a completed IEP and learn to incorporate federal law procedures to support students and families.
