Course Description

This course is designed to provide online counselors with resources to practice from a systems theory perspective to support the counselor in their own professional practice as well as attend to the various systems within the school and/or community setting in which the counselor is practicing. Specific considerations such as engaging with parents/partners/family, collaborating with other school/agency colleagues, and counselor legal/ethical consultation will be addressed.

Learner Outcomes

This course offers an overview best practice recommendations related to consultation and collaboration in schools and community settings. By the end of the course, students will:

  1. Develop an understanding of the role of collaboration and consultation specific to serving an online student/client population
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of the role of the professional counselor related to serving your school or community mental health community through collaboration and consultation with stakeholders
  3. Integrate knowledge of prevention, intervention, and assessment through collaboration and consultation strategies


Utilizes Canvas, Zoom and Google Sites to integrate technology throughout this course. Course instruction will include Canvas online resources and discussion board forums, posted video lectures and synchronous class meetings via zoom.
