EDCO 5288 - Online Counseling Practice
Course Description
This course is designed to support practicing counselors in their professional development as they consider how best practice counseling interventions should and can be adjusted to meet the unique needs of online student/client populations. Online individual and group counseling skills and techniques will be presented as well as school/community resources and website development. For school-based counselors, multi-tier systems of support (MTSS) will be presented and attention to each population will be discussed. For community counselors, specific populations (substance abuse, marriage/couples work, individuals, etc.) will be presented as well as population-specific resources.Learner Outcomes
This course offers an overview of counseling techniques as online interventions and provides for the development of basic online counseling skills. By the end of the course, students will:
- Develop an understanding of skills and techniques relevant for individual and group counseling interventions
- Demonstrate knowledge of special populations served in school and community settings and appropriate counseling interventions
- Integrate knowledge of prevention, intervention, and assessment appropriate for online counseling settings
Notes
Utilizes Canvas, Zoom and Google Sites to integrate technology throughout this course. Course instruction will include Canvas online resources and discussion board forums, posted video lectures and synchronous class meetings via zoom.
