PES 5067 - Teaching Health & Wellness
Course Description
Teaches participants to effectively use current health and wellness information in any educational setting. Students will develop a comprehensive health curriculum and a variety of lessons based on The Washington State Essential Learning Requirements for Health and Fitness. Focuses on practical and hands-on activities that meet K-12 Health and Fitness Endorsement Competencies.Course Outline
Session 1: Unpacking the National Standards, looking at a skill based approach. Identifying performance indicators at each level. Developing a Health philosophy that is relevant to today’s students.
Session 2: Looking at different content units (Dimensions of Wellness- “SPIESV”) and planning for presentations.
Session 3: Continue planning units (Dimensions of Wellness)
Session 4: Health Lesson Presentations
Learner Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will have:
- Learned and be able to demonstrate essential health and wellness information and teaching methods.
- Developed a comprehensive health education curriculum that can be used in any setting.
- Learned how to create health and fitness lessons that are based on the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements in Health and Fitness and National Health Standards.
Notes
This course enrollment is restricted only to students who are enrolled in one of the following SPU programs while pursuing a Health Fitness endorsement: SPU’s AMAT, MAT, ARC certification programs, or CPE’s Add-on Endorsement program.
Participants who register for this course but do not fit that criteria will be administratively dropped from the course with a full refund.
