EDCT 5684 - Teenage Minds: Brain-Based Methods that Boost Adolescent Learning
Course Description
This course is designed to take an in-depth look at research- supported strategies used to boost student’s effort, attitude, focus and IQ. During the course you will read about practical and teacher-friendly techniques and strategies to implement in your classroom. You will examine and reflect on the readings and your own practices with teaching adolescent students. You will be encouraged to share your own instructional successes and challenges in the area of working with adolescents that are disengaged and struggling in school as you read through Turnaround Tools for the Teenage Brain written by Eric Jensen and co-authored by Carole Snider. Grades 6-12.
Learner Outcomes
Participants will:
- Reflect on their own teaching practices with students that are struggling and set goals for their teaching.
- Apply Best Practices to their teaching and learning instruction.
- Investigate the interwoven nature of attitude, effort and success.
- Think critically about and evaluate strategies for struggling students.
