Course Description

Takes an in-depth look at the definition and application of Family-Centered Services (FCS) as it relates to diverse systems of care. Examines the core values, elements of best practice, and guiding principles of FCS, in addition to providing numerous practical examples of how to apply such principles to practice. Research relating the importance of family participation in FCS, and an overview of three contextualist theories that have significant implications for FCS are also provided. Covers the complexities of families by examining factors contributing to family diversity, and the major stress factors that are impacting many families today. Explores the roles and responsibilities of both parents and early childhood educators as they support, nurture, and educate young children. Lastly, the course emphasizes parent education, interagency collaboration, and building communities of care to support the growth and development of all children.
