Course Description

Culturally Responsive Education in the Classroom is an outstanding book that shows educators how to connect the concept of equity into the context of pedagogy in K-12 classrooms. This book provides educators with a framework for understanding what equitable learning experiences look like for children in our schools. The author shares six themes of culturally responsive education and helps teachers incorporate equity into behaviors, environments, and meaningful learning opportunities. Closing equity gaps in student achievement is at the core of this book.

By the end of the course participants will have learned:

  1. What equity means in the context of pedagogy.
  2. Culturally Responsive Education as it relates to equity gaps and will learn the six themes of CRE.
  3. How to plan for equity in the classroom and design culturally responsive learning experiences.
  4. Ten strategies to draw out the CRE themes and implications moving forward in support of equity.
