PES 5085 - Coaching: Enhancing Motivation
Course Description
Any coach or athlete who achieves success in competitive sport does so because of a level of mastery in the mental aspects of athletic performance. All learning, improvement, and successful sport performance is intrinsically tied to the psychological dimension of motivation. This course offers the athletic coach and/or teacher the opportunity to learn and apply correct psychological principles for enhancing motivation within the competitive sport context.
Learner Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Analyze and apply correct principles of performance psychology within the competitive sport context.
- Identify and analyze crucial factors involving a growth mindset approach to the study of achievement motivation in sport.
- Identify and analyze the effects of coach-athlete communication as these factors relate to motivation and success for the athlete.
- Identify and apply the effects of growth mindset on self-confidence factors as they influence athletic performance and persistence within a real-world athletic context.
- Develop an understanding of sound motivational and learning principles as useful vehicles for improving performances in an athletics practice
