Course Description

Enables teachers to deepen their understanding of the underlying principles and connections among ideas inherent in school mathematics by improving math proficiency and by reviewing math content and processes. Areas for review include place value, operations, fractions, decimals, geometry, statistics, algebra, measurement, and problem solving. Class activities for reviewing content include presentations, readings, practice exercises, application activities, objective assessments, and reflections. Also previews select instructional methods for teaching math to K-5 students.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the course participants will be be able to:

  • Use the four operations with whole numbers to solve problems
  • Gain familiarity with factors and multiples
  • Understand decimal notation for fractions and compare decimal fractions
  • Represent and interpret data
