EDMU 5625 - SongWorks in the General Classroom

Course Description

Allows participants to experience, apply, and reflect upon SongWorks principles and Practices aiming to facilitate the transformation of theory into practice in the pre-K and elementary general classroom. Presents music activities focusing on the principles of teaching and learning, which are the basis for song study in SongWorks 1: Singing in the Education of Children (Bennett & Bartholomew, 1997). Instruction will utilize SongWorks principles and practices for engaging learners.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will have had the opportunity to:

Experience interactive music activities that focus on playfulness, song games, and building social skills while highlighting student choice;
Explore bridge notation strategies that utilize the sound-to-symbol approach
Observe children in action with a master SongWorks teacher
Reflect on shared learning experiences and assigned readings
Explore personal music skills and develop comfort with singing
Document understanding through daily written assignments
Explore and develop ways to integrate music into the classroom curriculum

Notes

This course can either be taken for credit or clock hours. Clock hours are available under CEU 4017.
