Course Description

Allows participants to experience, apply, and reflect upon SongWorks principles and Practices aiming to facilitate the transformation of theory into practice in the pre-K and elementary general classroom. Presents music activities focusing on the principles of teaching and learning, which are the basis for song study in SongWorks 1: Singing in the Education of Children (Bennett & Bartholomew, 1997). Instruction will utilize SongWorks principles and practices for engaging learners. 

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will have had the opportunity to:

  • Experience interactive music activities that focus on playfulness, song games, and building social skills while highlighting student choice; 
  • Explore bridge notation strategies that utilize the sound-to-symbol approach
  • Observe children in action with a master SongWorks teacher
  • Reflect on shared learning experiences and assigned readings
  • Explore personal music skills and develop comfort with singing
  • Document understanding through daily written assignments
  • Explore and develop ways to integrate music into the classroom curriculum

 

Notes

This course can either be taken for credit or clock hours. Clock hours are available under CEU 4017.
