Course Description

This course offers an introduction to the ACE study, brain science and attachment, followed by practical tools for applications. Adlerian theory is introduced. Participants will work with case studies and also learn tools for connecting with all youth, but specifically youth exposed to trauma. This includes practice with encouragement (contrasted with praise), asking instead of telling, the importance of maintaining dignity and the importance of routines.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of this course participants will have:

  • An understanding of the neuroscience behind trauma and attachment
  • Knowledge to enhance their “radar” about trauma and attachment
  • Three tools to respond to individuals exposed to trauma
  • Approaches for supporting the development of internal motivation.
