Course Description

Introduces the basic configuration of Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), as well as their use in the fields of scientific research and offshore energy production. This includes details of the physics of buoyancy (mass vs. volume, and centers thereof), control (thrust vs. resistance), and basic tools for manipulationg materials on the seafloor. Each participant will receive a kit of parts that they will turn into the base of a three-thruster ROV. They will be taught the basics of soldering components to circuit boards, wire-to-wire soldering, and simple circuits. Also introduces basic ROV frame design in a small group challenge activity.
