EDCT 5495 - Moving Beyond Barriers to Cultural Proficiency
This eCourse shows educators how to use insight and leadership to create new opportunities for achievement for all students. Participants will explore the connection between values, assumptions, and beliefs and the outward actions that make change possible and sustainable. Participants will understand how moral consciousness shapes their role as an educator and leader; recognize how a school's core values shape assumptions held about students, and get to the root of problems that may be holding back student achievement; identify areas where low expectations may be shaping teaching and learning, and develop strategies that promote equity; learn from comprehensive case studies focusing on the experiences of schools, districts, and educators in different roles, lead difficult conversations that support productive change; and create an outcome map to guide school transformation.
