Course DescriptionAs teachers move toward fuller adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) by implementing inquiry-based learning in their classrooms, one significant obstacle they encounter is the scarcity of robust guided-inquiry activities. In this course, participants will experience the Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) environment, explore POGIL strategies, and develop a practical model for writing and assessing guided-inquiry activities. Participants will use their new skills to write, beta test, receive feedback on, and revise two or three mini-activities.
- Participants will develop proficiency with the basic POGIL activity writing skills of crafting creating effective learning objectives, scaffolding guided inquiry questions, analyzing the structure of a learning cycle-based activity, and creating robust models.
- Participants will write solid drafts of two or three single model mini-activities
- Participants will offer and receive feedback on newly written guided-inquiry activities.
- Participants will reflect on their experience of the writing process.
