PES 5070 - Strategies for Teaching Strength Training
Course Description
This course is designed to introduce and prepare instructors in methods of teaching strength and conditioning programs. The course explores the scientific principles related to various aspects of resistance training and how they apply to children and youths. A "hands-on" approach will be used to integrate theoretical and practical application. The course will consider both biological and chronological age in the selection and implementation of various strength and conditioning techniques. The course will include, but not be limited to: the comparison of free weights with fixed machine based equipment; strength training techniques; the application of speed agility and quickness training; the suitability of Olympic lifting techniques; and the suitability of Plyometric training.Notes
Students admitted to a School of Education Certificate or endorsement program have priority registration for this course. Non-admitted students may be administratively dropped with a full refund prior to the first class session if space is not available.Prerequisites
A final grade of B or better in PES 5031 "Anatomy and Physiology for Health Fitness Educators" is required to participate in PES 5070. To allow the instructor adequate grading time, PES 5070 students must submit all coursework in PES 5031 Anatomy & Physiology for Health Fitness Educators no later than July 1, 2025*.
