Course Description

Whether your classroom has access to one iPad, or an entire class set, this powerful tool will engage your students and presents many exciting platforms for independent learning.  But do you know how to get the most out of your classroom iPads?  This distance class gives you the opportunity to explore how to manage your iPads, keep your tablets and students safe, and how iPads are especially powerful for your SPED and ELL students.  You will gain familiarity with a wide range of free and low cost apps that can be used in each subject throughout the day.  You must have access to at least one iPad (any version) to complete this class.  Grades K-12.

I have a completely different outlook on what the iPads should be used for in the classroom. In the past, I have used them to be tools for students to use in order to learn something. After taking this class and reading some of the articles, I now see it as a tool just as much for me to use as the students and also for the kids to create their own work and take more ownership of their work through the iPad. I love the idea of using it as a creative medium to produce presentations and books rather than just practicing math facts and reading. This class has opened my eyes to so many more uses than I really thought about. You can get more students to buy into assignments and subjects when it is done on an iPad in the correct way. I am excited to use apps like story bird to get kids creating their own stories and sharing them with the class through their own iPad. This will challenge me to learn more about the iPad but it is something I have needed to do to maximize the iPad to its fullest potential.

I have learned so much in this class, and am so glad that I signed up to take it. Before I started, I did not have much confidence in my ability to utilize the iPad in my classroom. I did not feel comfortable creating my own masterpieces, and I certainly did not have enough knowledge to even help my students use certain apps. Throughout the last several weeks, I have gained confidence and knowledge, and feel much more ready to implement iPad usage in my classroom this school year.

I can’t think of a time when I’ve been so interested in Professional Development. Thank you for the great feedback, the ease of communication and the organization for this class! As I signed up for this class, I felt that I had a pretty good grasp on the iPad and how I could use it in my classroom. I had hoped I’d gain an insight, or two on improving my current systems. Having never taken an online class I wasn’t sure how this would work, or what the requirements would be. I found myself so sucked into the learning that I couldn’t wait to jump to the next assignment. My goals were more than met, as I learned much more than a nugget or two.
