EDCT 5678 - Let’s Talk About Race

Course Description

In this course, you will take steps to deepen your understanding of cultural competency and equity through the exploration of Critical Race Theory (CRT). CRT has five tenets that include counter-storytelling, the permanence of racism, whiteness as property, interest convergence, and critique of liberalism. These tenets work towards eliminating racial oppression, discrimination, and inequality that can be found within the fabric of our American culture.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the course participants will have:

Explored the advantages/disadvantages of talking about race in order to move towards a more equitable environment.
Learned the 5 key Critical Race Theory (CRT) tenets and explore how they work towards identifying and eliminating racial oppression and inequality.
Explored the 5 CRT tenets and learn to recognize historical and present-day examples.
Learned actionable steps toward having conversations around race with the RIR protocol: Recognize It, Interrupt It, and Repair It.
