Course Description

This course will explore the evolution of the LGBTQ plus community and highlight key components of equity for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, and questioning/queer people. Participants will identify important terminology associated with sexual orientation and gender expression and become more comfortable in the use of pronouns, which provide a more inclusive environment for all people. Participants will also engage in an exploration of some of the issues that the LGBTQ plus community faces, reflect on their own biases, and learn how to become an ally to help stop the cycles of biased behaviors and attitudes towards the LGBTQ plus community.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the course participants will have:

  1. Explored the evolution of the LGBTQ+ Community.
  2. Explored ways to increase equality and equity for the LGBTQ+ community.
  3. Identified key terminologies associated with sexual orientation and gender expression and explore how to use pronouns as to provide a more inclusive environment.
  4. Practiced using the RIR Protocol to address biases and discrimination of the LGBTQ+ community.
