EDRD 5840 - Text Level Support for You and Your Students

Course Description

Wondering how to use all the information obtained from giving running records? This class will deeply examine the skills needed at each text level. The knowledge gained will enable teachers to use their running records to set student goals and plan small groups. Each teacher will create a reading toolkit to help support your teaching during both conferences and small groups in order to move students through text levels. Finally, your questions about what’s the difference between a level -- and a level -- will be answered. Grades K-5.

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

• Analyze student data to inform instruction and individual reading needs
• Understand text levels typically present in the teacher’s classroom
• Evaluate a text and determine which skills a student would need in order to read the text
• Determine which tools will be most beneficial to teacher for conferences and small groups
