Course Description

Do you want to see students demonstrate greater independence and self-awareness so as to achieve high academic standards? This course is designed to give you, the teacher, an overview of current research in the field of social-emotional learning as well as information on programs of implementation and strategies for success. Students will learn the scientific evidence which supports teaching practices regarding the five competencies of social-emotional learning (self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, relationships skills, social awareness), learn about building SEL skills in students from diverse backgrounds and with disabilities, investigate their own SEL skills, and answer an independent research question. Completing this course will give you deep knowledge that allows you to
take the next steps in improving your classroom climate and ability to reach students who struggle with social-emotional skills.
