Course Description

In this course, you will explore strategies for creating a safe and nurturing environment in the classroom for both students and teachers. We will begin by exploring a culture of safety, systems of meaning, and needs versus behaviors. Then we will move into the three Rs: relationships, responsibility, and regulation. The course text, Relationships, Responsibility, and Regulation by Souers and Hall, and supplemental readings and resources will support you as you build a plan for creating a culture of safety in your own classroom.  You will leave this class with an action plan and manageable steps toward building a classroom culture where you and your students feel safe and welcome.
